The Sound of Settling
K and B's wedding went very well. Click here for some pictures (not including ones of the ceremony)
An overview: Thursday M and I drove down to V,WA to meet up with K and help her do whatever needed to be done (which was very little) and just hang out.
I ate three times that day, not including breakfast and lunch - once at a surprise burger joint called Gorilla Grill hiding in the corner of a quickie mart (a delicious cheeseburger awaited me), another time at a taqueria that had all the various types of tacos for only $1.5o and was a sit-down place, not a bus, and then a third time at a tapas restaurant in the Hawthorne district.
Then the boys split off and B commenced his bachelor party night which was fairly unplanned, so no time to book a stripper. Us chicas went home to the apartment to tsismis and groom.
Friday brought the birth of Bridezilla (rowr!) pronounced with a Japanese "L". K was actually the least scary bride ever, so it was mostly a joke that was funny to us, but probably not anyone else. Lunch was at Billygans and then rehearsal dinner was at a tea house in La Center. They had crazy good mashed potatoes and tasty tilapia as well as good cheddar on toothpicks and fresh strawberries. Also it was their first event of this sort and went very well, despite the fact that we couldn't see half of the people there, but that's okay because we were busy making phone calls at the kids table. (btw, K's fabulous hair that night was my doing. I knew I did okay when B first saw her and made that funny cat sound boys make when they like girls. rrrrrawr!)
Nighttime was very chill. Most of the wedding party just hung out at the bride and groom's apartment until they were both too tuckered out and fell asleep on us. We informally answered some trivial pursuit and watched an episode of Full House, complete with Bill and Ted look-alikes (Stephanie learned that older boys that drive fast cars can be dangerous!)
Morning time I woke up with a bad allergy attack. Apparently my nose was whistling all night, keeping J up. My air mattress deflated once again. I wonder if I have warranty on that. I walked to the store to get some allergy drugs and then returned to the store with B to keep him company while he bought us breakfast. Hair salon, then back to the apt, then off to the wedding site. I have some pictures but tried to leave it to the professional, so I don't have much to offer. The ceremony itself was just the right amount of time and just the right amount of sentiment. B surprised K by changing some of his vows - a real tear jerker. K's sister K sang and then they exchanged rings.
Reception time went well because the dj was more of an emcee than a dj, which worked out okay in this instance. He kept the room and mood up and made sure to space out events evenly. B tossed a grey argyle sock instead of a garter and most people donated twice to dance with both bride and groom for the money dance.
The night ended with a sparkler walkway for the bride and groom to follow to their car, which K drove away like the good woman she is.
Good stuff. Megan's totally next.

Goodbye for now, Ballard!
I'm off to K's wedding today. Took Thursday and Friday off so I can go down and perform the bridesmaid's duty of reducing bride freak-out sessions.
The bachelorette party went really well. K came up when she said she would (a rarity among my friends) and it was just the two of us and VAJ for the first night. It was nice and low key, like planned - a little happy hour dinner here, a drink there, another snack, another drink, another dinner, some karaoke, more food... VAJ and K seemed to get along really well, which made me happy since I have at least 3 groups of friends that definitely do not mesh well already.
The second day of K's visit the rest of the chicks trickled into Seattle. We went on a quest for busty lingerie and snacks. Gatorade bottles emptied and refilled sustained us for the first part of the day until nighttime came, 2 meals passed, and it was time for the 3rd. The 3rd meal came a little harder. We got distracted by the prep ceremony and didn't end up at the dinner place until after their kitchen was closed. I had vowed not to take my friends to a chain restaurant, but we ended up at McCormick's anyway. The burgers were worth it. At least it had tillamook cheese.
Night turned into late-night and after a stop at a bar we made our way back to my apartment where the party continued.
Here's a blurry picture of the bar.

The next morning consisted of very slow waking-up and a round of Monsters Inc. for K while I helped J cirsumvent (sic) traffic and picked up the keyless entry remote for my car.
I think she looked pretty good by the afternoon:

So I'm off to finish the job. Wish me luck in my 2 hr. bus adventure down to Tacoma! Wish this girl luck in her new murrrige!
P.S. I'm afraid I might have to make an emergency toast - can anyone send me a cheat-sheet?!

I have been SOO productive today.
First of all, I haven't had the chance to recognize all the folks from around the country and world that are visiting the site that I probably don't personally know. Welcome folks! I hope you have checked out my links on the side bar. Most of those people are more interesting than me, but thanks for checking me out anyway! Leave me comments because I love them!
So work today has been slow. It hasn't been this slow in a long time, which is probably why my blogs have been so boring. I realized that my ability to read the news is directly correlated to the number of angry politically-minded blogs that I post. Obviously I have no idea what's going on in the world right now, besides the previous blog where I tried to hit it all in one shot. heh.
Since there's not lots of interesting news to tell you about, I'll tell you about the upcoming bachelorette party I'm about to throw this weekend. My best friend K is getting married next weekend, so this weekend I'm having my core middle/high school friends who I've managed to stay in touch with come up for some drunk bitchery. Haha. Acutally - we've always been really tame chicks - so it probably won't be exactly like that, but I suppose there's a first for everything.
This group of friends have been together since elementary and middle school. We've managed to stay pretty tight-knit, actually loose-knit, but still "knit" over the past....OMG FIFTEEN YEARS?! (holy shit, I'm getting old!)
The things I learned about friendship from them:
1. I CAN be friends with a republican, but let's try not to talk about the ethics of torture. (Sorry if you read this, M, I know you're not a "true" republican, but for the purposes of storytelling...)
2. You don't have to talk to someone once a week, month, 6 months, or even once a year in order to maintain a true friendship. Sometimes it's better when you don't talk to them anyway, you bitches.
3. Sometimes you forget how well you know a person or how well they know you, but then you'll remember and it turns out that it's probably the reason you're still friends. Don't let them tell all your new friends who are still impressed by your novelty though. It'll ruin the surprise.
Ahh - let's all join in a chorus of "That's what friends are for."
OOoohyeaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh
AHAHAHAHA! Okay, is it nice to pick on people like that? I can't help it. I love intertron. (I have no idea who those people are, btw.)
So this Bachelorette party that's happening tomorrow...I broke down and made K a mini-veil to wear for the night we go out since it's tradition to make the bride-to-be wear something marking her as such. Something about this tradition reeks of obligation though. Bleh. I'm hoping we can not be totally trashy like those annoying chicks you see out in Pioneer square wearing skinny stilettos they can't walk in and skanky outfits - who squeal and scream and do slutty stuff to get boys to buy them drinks. There are other people in the world that take money/compensation for doing slutty things...
EEEEhhhhh I really don't want to do that to my friend.
Well, we'll see how it goes. I'll bring a camera. And then I'll make a slideshow... heh!

So there's some good things...
Hooray for MTV awards's Best Kiss (sorry can't find a pic), Best Performance, and the overall queerness of this year's awards show!
Hooray for NOT amending the constitution with discriminatory heterosexist language!
Hooray, Lt. Watada, for doing your patriotic duty and refusing illegal orders!
Boo for institutionalizing sexist law that limits womens' access to reproductive health methods.
Boo for anti net- neutrality legislation and the predictablity of R's to hate anything remotely socialist.

It's easy to just ignore
This past weekend on the ferry, my kuyang j pointed out a headline on the Seattle Times.
I forgot about it for awhile (haven't been watching the news much lately) but then was quietly reminded by BBC (CNN came later, surprise) about the atrocity.
anyway - it just screams tip of the iceberg to me, like most other things reported about this war.
(I'd link more, but it's time to get back to work.)
